Preparation is the key to obtaining an optimal PET-CT scan. Please call (907) 261-3146 if you have any questions.
Diet and Your Activity affect image quality
These two things can cause the radioisotope to uptake in areas that are not indicative of cancer activity as they affect metabolic activity in cells. A high protein, low carbohydrate diet and avoiding strenuous activity means that the areas that show up on your scan will truly indicate areas of diagnostic concern.
The Prep
Patients have a 12-hour prep for most PET-CT scans. Exceptions are scans of the heart and brain. We have two PDF forms that you can download and print that explain the details. The first one is applicable for most patients having a PET-CT (for PET-CT of the brain, see below). Click here to download the PET-CT Prep Sheet for Whole Body Imaging
If your clinician has ordered a PET-CT of the brain, click here to download the PET-CT Prep Sheet for Brain Imaging. Instructions are applicable twelve (12) hours before your appointment.
