Medical Records

Our File Room Staff carefully returns a film jacket to its rightful place

NEW! As of 9/6/11, Providence Imaging Center acquired Alaska Open Imaging (AOI) in Soldotna. Learn more here. We welcome former AOI patients, and referring providers, and hope we can help with any imaging needs. Please note: If you are a patient requesting records from a visit to Alaska Open Imaging (Sept. 1, 2011 and prior), please contact the AOI billing department at (888)416-2980.

The File Room provides patients and clinicians with films and CDs of exams performed at PIC. Most exams are stored in a digital format, and no longer automatically printed to film. An exam can be printed to film at no charge one time. After that, there may be a charge to re-film the exam.

CDs of exams are now available at PIC. These discs can contain one or many exams, and include an autoloading program that will work on Windows based PCs that run Windows 98 or later. They are DICOM compliant, and can be taken to other healthcare facilities that utilize digital imaging to be compared.

Film/CD Checkout

Please give the File Room a call or e-mail us with your request. You may also choose to use our "Request an Imaging CD form". Simply let us know which records you need, where they are going, and how best to contact you when they are ready.

If you need to request your exam on film or CD, a 24 hour notice is required in order to give us time to print. If you require us to have the exam delivered, more notice may be needed in order to ensure timely delivery. CDs can usually be prepared the same day. Films/CDs will be waiting for pickup at the PIC front desk. Patients, please remember to bring a picture ID with you.

Courier Service by Eagle Express

We are able to have films and CDs delivered to clinician offices in the Anchorage area at no cost to you. Please provide us with your clinician's name, business name (if available), physical address, and phone number. The courier has a specific route and only visits each area of town once a day.

Requests for films from other facilities

Sometimes we may need to compare exams done at PIC to exams done previously at another healthcare facility. If you are coming to PIC for an exam and have previous films that need to be compared, please fill out the Outside Release Form, and fax or e-mail it to us so that we can begin the process of requesting these. Be sure to include the following information on the form: the healthare/facility name, mailing address(es), and phone/fax information.

If you need PIC to send your films to another facility for comparison, please fill out the Patient Release Form and return it to us. We will arrange to get them where they need to go.

Report Delivery

PIC routes radiology reports to the clinician who ordered them as soon as they are signed and printed. Clinicians who are set up in Epic for autofaxed results with a fax communication preference will have results sent that way. All clinicians who have a mail communication preference will have reports mailed. Providers, to verify your communication preference in Epic, please call Nathan at 212-6032.

Clinicians who have requested it may receive a preliminary fax report.

CDs of Exams

CDs of exams are a great way for patients to view their exams on their home PC, and are formatted in such a way that other healthcare facilities can view the images easily. Unfortunately, the viewing program that automatically loads once the CD is inserted is not compatible with Apple Macintosh computers. There is a shareware program called Osirix that Mac users can download at no cost that will allow them to view the images. Click here to visit the site and download the software.
